RV Parks Along the Way

(work in progress) Alphabetical listed by Town:

Aldergrove, BC, Canada:  Alderbrook RV Park
Clean park, lots of shrubbery for good level of privacy between sites, current manager will allow dogs only if taken outside of park for exercise

Fall 2011 update:  The new management does not allow pets.

Aldergrove, BC, Canada:  Eagle Wind RV Park:

This is a relatively new park just off Hwy 1 and 264th Street.  Large back-in sites, lots of trees all around give privacy from the frontage road and highway.  Under new management, which is good news to most people who dealt with the old one, apparently.

Bakersfield, California:  Bakersfield RV Park and Resort
Very nice paved park with level concrete slabs, patio, and picnic tables, pool and spa, with great restaurant on the premises.  Fenced smaller dog runs available.

Benson, Arizona:  Butterfield RV Resort & Observatory
Completely paved with a large pine tree between each site, good long pull-throughs and also back-in sites for month or longer stays.  Great pool and spa, also has an observatory with two astronomists offering nightly shows.  Only downside is the trains that run through the town.  For some reason they love to lay on their horns, especially at night.  Not sure why since they have controlled railway crossings.

Buckeye, Arizona:  Leaf Verde RV Resort
Desert setting with gravel sites, paved interior roads.  Good vacant land across the street for dogs to run.  Easy access on/off Hwy. 10.  LOTS of military fighter jet action in the afternoons.

Fort Stockton:  Hilltop RV
Relatively new campground, friendly owners, nice basic facilities and pool, small fenced area for dog run.  The entire RV area is the West Texas white dusty gravelly stuff, which tracks into the RV as a fine white powder.  $25/night, good WiFi, large pull-through sites.

Fortuna, California
Got a bit of a Compton feel to it, a lot of full-timers in the back with cars that have obviously been broken into before, hopefully not at the campground.  Easy on/off the highway.  Pull-through was a little tricky to get into with the 42-foot fifth wheel.  Empty field between campground and restaurants for dogs to run.

Gallup, New Mexico:  USA RV Park
Clean park with fenced dog run, cheap laundry (75 cents per machine), has a few small separate rooms for people to take their computers and plug in to the internet.  We were there off season, but looks like they have a fair-sized pool, plus nice playground for kids and a BBQ pavilion.

Indio, California:  Indian Wells RV Resort
One of our favourite parks, this one has three pools, two spas, horseshoe pits, barbecue pavilion, gigantic orange sun umbrellas, hedges made out of lipstick plants (the ones the hummingbirds love), gigantic palm trees everywhere, a palm date farm next door, an IN-N-OUT Burger a mile away, two DelTacos about the same distance away, awesome weather, and great staff.

Ingram, Texas:  Johnson Creek RV Resort
Nice newer RV park, originally a pecan orchard that they have made into the campground.  Really nice clubhouse with a huge kitchen and fireplace.  Lots of room in remaining orchard for dog exercise, and the river runs adjacent to it, as well.

Kerrville, Texas:  Guadalupe River RV Resort
This is a really nice park on the Guadalupe River.  The grounds are park-like and there is a real saloon on site, too.

Las Cruces, New Mexico:  KOA
Pricey, as are most KOAs, but a good stopover point on the way to Roswell or Texas.  Gravel interior is raked every day.  Pull-through sites extremely narrow, WiFi is sketchy.  Fairly large dog run, sand  instead of grass, and some really large cactus in there to watch out for.

Lincoln City, Oregon:  Premier RV Resorts
Fancy chain of RV resorts.  Paved sites, nice clubhouse, across the road from the ocean, but steep stairs going down cliff to access beach

Long Beach, Washington

Port Aransas, Mustang Island, Texas:  Pioneer Beach Resort
We love Texas and we love this park.  It's right beside the beach and has a lot of ponds and wetlands in the middle of it so you see a lot of the migratory birds.  I even saw a pink spoonbill, which was very cool.  Pelicans abound, and the brown pelicans were dressed in their finest breeding plumage when we were there.  The people are the best, the food is cheap and so is the monthly site rental.  We will be returning here for sure.

Roswell, New Mexico:  Trailer Village RV Park
This is a nice park owned/run by an awesome family.  Roswell is in a good location, not only for the alien aspect, but also Billy the Kid and a lot of other history.  We went there for 2 nights on the way to Texas and ended up staying there over a week, and we made a special trip there on our way back so we could stay there for a week again.  We will definitely be returning here!

Sacramento, California:  Cal Expo RV Park
Bit tricky to find when travelling north-south or south-north, as you have to take a detour east towards Reno.  It's a huge gravel parking lot adjacent to the Cal Expo Fairgrounds.  Nice grassy dog run, though :)

Seal Rock Cove, Oregon

Tumwater, Washington - Olympia Campground
Nice nice nice, 10 acres of huge Doug fir trees, salal, and other indiginous species of underbrush, lots of mushrooms and really cool campsites made private by above vegetation.  Fire pits in every site, except for the pull-throughs near the front.  Lots of room for dogs to run in the off season, too.  Good Wifi near the office.

Willits, California

Winchester Bay, Oregon:  Winchester Bay RV Resort

Yermo, California:  KOA
