Caravan is back on the road, November 2011!

Sure are a lot of prisons between Palm Springs and Benson, AZ

Highway rest areas are inviting and relaxing places to visit ...

This guy was literally out in the middle of nowhere in the desert and walking against the traffic

Maseratis, anyone?  Cheap at 250K each :)

Badly out-of-focus shot of a truck swinging from a crane about 50 feet in the air.  Love those American car lots!
Ah, yes, the Hookah Lounge and smoke shop near Palm Springs, California

ON THE WAY BACK:  Now we're on the way back to BC -- very slowly!

Zuni Pueblo, about an hour south of Gallup, NM:

Huge windstorm between Gallup and Toadalena, about an hour's drive, complete with thousands of tumbleweeds blowing across the highway

Toadalena Trading Post has a Navajo rug museum (above)

Above:  See no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil -- yeah, right ...

Maggie lives at Trailer Village in Roswell, NM, along with her sidekick, Mack Daddy (above)

On the way to Roswell, New Mexico, from Mustang Island:
Bullet holes riddle the sign above

Enjoying the last days on the beach:

We like Texas so much that we fly a Texas state flag on our RV:

Port Aransas, Texas, on Mustang Island:

Above:  Two guys and a motorcycle "It was THIS BIG!"
Above:  Spring Break heats up -- you know you're in Texas when you see a big pickup truck towing an equally big smoker/BBQ on the beach!

Spring Break officially arrives with college kids erecting their flags on the dunes:

And on their trucks, driving up and down the beach (enlarge this to see the guy on the tailgate:

Above:  world-famous Rudy's BBQ in Corpus Christie -- note interesting fall protection for the painter on the ladder on the slippery metal roof consists of the guy below him holding his feet on the bottom of the ladder.  Ha!

 Mardi Gras in Texas:

Mardi Gras was the weekend before we left Mustang Island, and the park residents where we were staying really got into the swing of things with a dinner and dance on Saturday night.  They also had a parade around the park that day, complete with wildly decorated golf carts, bicycles, people, and even dogs!  They really got into the swing of things and were throwing scads of Mardi Gras beads and candies as they passed by our campsite.

Missy checking out our Talvera bulldogs loaded with Mardi Gras beads and candies!

Lots of Mardi Gras beads!
Out and about on South Padre and Mustang Islands:

It's a bird, it's a plane -- nope, it's our osprey kite!  He's fastened to a 15-foot bamboo pole on top of the RV, and he flutters around with a fish in his talons, looking very realistic (about 3-foot wingspan):

Meet Carlos, the cutest little baby Mexican chihuahua (his name is actually Harley).  He's about the size of a smallish guinea pig.  I want one:

Below:  Yes, sir... and street legal, too, here in our favourite state, Texas, where everything is bigger, apparently:

Below:  A real-life sand castle that makes up part of a huge gift store on South Padre Island:

Two more of my fave eTrade baby commercials:

I guess Lindsay Lohan is suing over this one:

Above:  Water fountain in Roswell RV park frozen solid on the morning we left for Texas

Above:  Welcoming sign to the city famous for the UFO crash site in 1947
...wait a minute, what is that sitting on the top middle of the sign?

Above:  Moving closer, it appears to be a horribly injured figure ...

Above:  Decapitated! Is it merely a broken child's toy?
Or is it a rejected alien abductee, decapitated and flung from the mothership, pointing towards the planet of his captors?

Perhaps we shall never know ... (cue Twilight Zone theme music)

Sierra Vista, Arizona:
Does Quentin Tarentino know about this place?

Above:  Cross-merchandising at the Benson, Arizona, Wal-Mart store:  Coke and Jack Daniels

Above:  Whole aisle devoted to booze in Wal-Mart -- "Save Money, Live Better," as they say.

Above:  This one's for you, Billy -- Billy's Bar & Grill in Sierra Vista, Arizona :D
(Flag is at half mast in the state of Arizona because of the shootings in Tucson that week)
